Hey y'all, Here goes, I have a Sanyo DS31650 TV about 12 yrs. old, I had it hooked up to a viewsat ultra 2000 reciever, along with a Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD player & an old Sanyo VWM-400 VCR. Everything worked fine til we went digital & sat went down. I bought the Magnavox TB110MW9A digital converter so I disconnected everything else & hooked up the converter. It didn't work. Checked connections, swapped coaxial to RCA connections, channel 3 on both, I couldn't even get the setup screen for the converter, nothing but snow! When I'd switch channels back & forth on the TV between 3 & 4 I'd catch a glimpse of the setup screen ( this was using the remote )I read these Magnavox converters were junk, so borrowed one from a friend that was working, a Craig, & hooked it up , same thing. When I tried changing channels on the TV itself with the buttons , the TV menu would come up! After talking to a local repairman, I think the tuner is going out. I understand I was using the viewsat as a tuner, But if it worked , why won't it work with the converter? Isn't it a tuner? My question is can I use the viewsat as a tuner or the DVD player? Each one says it's a tuner, but it doesn't say ATSC tuner. Connect the converter to the viewsat or DVD?
does your tv have RCA video inputs? if so use them to connect your converter box and that should solve the broken tuner issue of the TV itself

...You're not trying to replace the satellite receiver with the ATSC tuner, are you? The tuners are for over-the-air broadcasts, and will not work with satellite. Satellite was not affected by the digital transition, as it was digital already.
To receive channels with the Magnavox tuner that you have you need to connect it to an antenna that is suitable for your location.

Thanks mta. Now that you mention it I only tried the RCA inputs on the Magnavox, so I'll try it on the Craig.
Thanks satchick, No I wanted to hook up the converter to get locals. I'm using rabbit ears. I'm on top of a hill & I've never had problems getting reception before, but everyone tells me digital will be different & I may have to get an outdoor one. I'll cross that bridge when & if I get there. The problem is that when I hook up the converter I can't even see the converter's setup screen. It's like my TV is between channels. I thought it would act as a tuner just like my sat reciever does so the broken tuner on the TV wouldn't matter. Try, try again. LOL!

Try going thru the tuner on the VCR and see if you get a pic, also make sure your TV isn’t set to CATV as the antenna input, video outputs should work even though the tuner in the TV might not be.

Hi Cindy
I have the same tuner. I hooked up the antenna, in your case the rabbit ears to the tv antenna in with the rf cable. Then out to the tv. I tuned the tv to channel 3 and brought up the menue, using the new remote & scanned the channels. Everything works fine. Hope this helps.
All the best Alioop
