View Full Version : Digital and Analog Co-Existence?!?

Hi folks...

I just got my hands on a Sansonic FT-300A ATSC Digital to Analog Converter.
I used to get all the analog digital channels from NY and VT no problem when my antenna was pointed south. I would also get the local Montreal channels tho a tad fuzzy... So I would rotate my antenna West and the local channels would come in clear...

With the Sansonic I now can get all US channels in clear, much better than before except for one?!? WVNY 22.1 comes in but fairly pixelated... S & Q are nothing like WCAX 3.2 or WPTZ 5.1 etc... Yet I used to get 22 in clear as a bell when it was broadcasting analog, much better than 3 or 5?!? Why?

Also, when connected to the Sansonic, I cannot get any of the local analog channels such as 2, 6, 10, 12, 35, 46 at all?!? I thought by powering off the unit, it would react as a pass-thru and pass the analog signals through, but it does not? So now what? How do I get both digital and analog signals?!?

I rigged up a Co-Ax A/B Switch with the antenna going IN, A out to a splitter side A for analog and B on the switch going to my Sansonic IN and the output going to the B side of the splitter... It works but in order to get the ;local analog channels, I have to throw the A/B switch to A and then I can get my analog channels.
If I wnat the US digital channels, I have to get up and throw the A/B switch to B, put the TV on 03 and then control the digital channels vis the Sansonic.

Isn't there an easier way?
Is there not an ATSC converter that allows one to pass analog signals through the converter when not needing the digital output?

Thanks for any input/ouput on the subject :-)
Cheers!

The Sansonic FT-300A has a built-in User-selectable Ch3 or 4 NTCS RF Output but I could not figure out how to select it!
After reading many posts in many Audio Video forums I see that you can press the CH SCAN button and change the RF CHANNEL from 3 to 4 and 4 selects the NTSC Tuner...

I'll test it tonight and will post back if it works...

EDIT:
Ok here's the scoop... The "User-selectable Ch3 or 4 NTCS RF Output" simply means that you can select either channel 3 or 4 on your TV (just like a VCR) to get your digital signal output to analog... The FT-300A does not support APT (Analog Pass Through)!

So that's it then!

There a 2 ways of hooking up an DTV converter box that does not support APT (Analog Pass-Through)
